All volunteers are members of the hospital auxiliary. Currently there are 125 adult and 25 junior volunteers, who share their time and talents in over 30 different areas of the hospital.
Junior volunteers are students between the ages of 14 and 18, or until graduation from high school. During the school year junior volunteers typically work a three- to four-hour shift in the evenings or on Saturday, but during summer or holiday vacations junior volunteers may choose to work several days a week or longer shifts. Opportunities for junior volunteers are in the Snack Bar, at the Information Desk, as Patient Escorts, in the Physical Therapy Department, or during the summer months, as Volunteer Office Assistants. Volunteering is a wonderful way for students to become familiar with working in a hospital setting, and they may use this time to explore various health careers before making college decisions. Volunteer hours satisfy the community service requirement many high schools now require.
