The ACMH Hospital Auxiliary began as the “Woman’s Finance Committee of the Kittanning General Hospital” in July 1899 with the appointment by the Board of Directors of the hospital of an advisory committee consisting of 19 members. By August 1899 this group of hard-working women had established a food counter at the county fair, earned $248.44, and was looking into furnishing and papering rooms in the hospital with their funds.
Over 110 years later the ACMH Hospital Auxiliary, now comprised of both men and women, is still actively involved with food service at the Snack Bar and still contributing funds to the hospital for needed improvements.
However, the auxiliary’s functions have multiplied, and its contributions to the hospital in volunteer hours and in funds have helped to keep the hospital at the forefront of medical care in Armstrong and surrounding counties.
