The Auxiliary has been able to give an average of $100,000 yearly to the hospital through the operation of the Snack Bar, Gift Shop, TV Service, and the fundraising activities.
The Snack Bar serves full breakfasts any time of the day, lunches, and dinners. The Snack Bar offers visitors and hospital employees the opportunity to relax in a bright, comfortable restaurant setting. Friendly wait staff comprised of ten auxiliary employees, assisted by junior and adult volunteers, ensure that customers receive courteous service and delicious menu choices. The Snack Bar features many homemade entrees and desserts, such as old-fashioned bread pudding, peach and cherry cobblers, and tasty soups. The Snack Bar is known throughout the community to have the best milkshakes in town! Snack Bar hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed on Sunday.
The Gift Shop offers a full line of items for patients and visitors, including fresh flowers, greeting cards, jewelry, decorative giftware, reading material, and new baby gifts. Pittsburgh sports team licensed products are available seasonally. The Gift Shop and Snack Bar accept all major credit cards, and on-line and phone orders are always welcome. The Gift Shop is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed Sunday.
The Auxiliary has equipped all rooms with 22”, HD, flat screen hospital-grade sets. Patients and family members may request TV service for a rental cost of $4/day. TV service personnel visit each patient room to collect the rental fees, or payment may be made at the Information Desk or at the Gift Shop cash register.
The Auxiliary has been sponsoring its scholarship program since 2004, and to date 15 qualified students have received $1000 each to pursue health-related careers. 2010 recipients are adult volunteer Jason Hileman, a senior at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and junior volunteer Kayla Walker, a freshman at Duquesne University. ACMH Hospital Foundation, the Obstetrics Department, and the Auxiliary coordinates this hospital-based program to provide parents in need with an infant car seat that meets the state regulations. The only requirement is that the mother is a patient at ACMH Hospital. Contact the Volunteer office at 724-543-8142 for more information.
The Auxiliary is very active in its fundraising efforts for the hospital. Annual events include the Tree of Angels holiday display in the lobby, the fresh Georgia pecan sale each fall, and various vendor sales, such as uniforms, handbags, books, and many others. Seasonal drawings are featured in the main lobby of the hospital. The current drawing is for a 50” plasma TV with a video stand. Some of the past drawings have been for a summer backyard fire pit and accessories, Steelers baskets, Mother’s Day baskets, and many more. All proceeds from fundraising events benefit ACMH Hospital.
