A CT or CAT scan is a non-invasive imaging exam that assists physicians in the diagnosis and subsequent treatment of medical conditions. With the aid of a computer, it combines multiple x-ray images to generate cross-sectional views and, if needed, three-dimensional images of the internal organs and structures of the body. It is also used to define normal and abnormal structures in the body.
CT images can be manipulated and analyzed by your doctors and other experts to detect an internal disorder or injury.
You may be asked not to eat or drink anything for several hours prior to your exam, especially if contrast material will be used in your procedure. Your physician should be informed of the medications you are taking as well as any allergies you may have. Any patient with a known allergy to contrast material, or “dye,” will have their exam scheduled at the ACMH Hospital’s CT unit.
